Corn, Corn, and More Corn...

July 9, 2009

Wow, this has been a busy week in corn. Mike started pulling corn on Monday morning and by dark he had pulled 66 dozen ears. I started shucking and silking corn to put in the freezer. By Wednesday, I had 86 small cartons in the freezer. We have been selling corn this week at both markets as well as at Lexington Hospital. This first batch of corn is now gone and the second planting did not get enough rain so it will be a month until the third planting is ready. Since Wednesday, I started picking our butter beans and it won't be long until the butter peas will be ready to pick. I hope to see you soon.

Market Update

June 29, 2009

Well, we have had another fun filled day of picking green beans. The vines are still pretty and green and loaded with lots of beans. Okra is really starting to come on now. We will need to harvest if every other day to keep the okra from getting too large. We had our first early corn yesterday for lunch. We are planning on gathering "candy corn", our early corn, later this afternoon to take the Thomasville Farmer's market tomorrow. We still have squash and cucumbers available too. The only tomatoes that are ripe are the grape tomatoes. Well, I need to get back to the garden and start picking those squash. I hope we will see you at the market soon.

Market Update

June 22, 2009

It has been a very busy day picking green beans. We picked nine bushels today, as well as a bushel of beets. I gathered the squash, cucumbers and eggs. Mike checked on the (Minnesota midgets) cantaloupe and found they were beginning to net. It won't be long until they should be ready to harvest. To be sure that we get the first cantaloupe, Mike shaved fresh zest soap around the patch to keep the deer out of the patch. We started digging the first kennybeck potatoes today to take to the Thomasville Farmer's market tomorrow. Well I need to get back to canning those beets we harvested today. I hope you will drop by one of the markets and see use if you get a chance.

Market Update

June 12, 2009

Today we gathered Yukon Gold potatoes and beets to take to the market tomorrow. We have dressed chickens ready as well. Also, we have two varieties of green beans, True Blue and Derby. Yellow summer squash started coming in this week as well as two varieties of cucumbers. We have a slicing cucumber as well as pickling cucumbers. As always we have brown eggs with a few blue eggs to sell. It looks like we will have plenty to take to both the Lexington and Thomasville Farmer's market. Mike will be at Lexington and my son John and I will be at Thomasville Farmer's Market

This week I got several new baskets made to take to the Thomasville Farmer's Market and I plan to take a market basket to work on while we are at the market. The new baskets that I have ready are: Biscuit N Bun, Candy Corn, Luminary, Tiny Braid, and Napkin Baskets.

I hope you have a great day and we will see you at one of the markets.

Lexington Market Update

May 14, 2009

We will be at the Lexington Downtown Farmer's Market this Saturday from 8am until Noon. We will be selling fresh picked leaf lettuce and sweet peas. We don't have any chickens that are mature enough to process yet, so we will begin advertising to let folks know about our chickens that will be available in the next couple weeks.

Today we revealed our new website design. It's all a work in progress, but hopefully we will be able to update customers weekly as we prepare for market. Be sure to check our site to see what we will have available as the summer progresses.
